adjective – important, valuable

TAGALOG-NATIVE PHILIPPINE LANGUAGE

These bags are crafted by Mambog’s own local seamstresses, who we are working with directly. With the pandemic, seamstress jobs have been lacking which has affected the livelihood of these people. Making these tote bags will help in providing them jobs and employment. Then all products made are then donated directly to people who are in need. We plan to work with the Sisters of the Poor to distribute these bags to teenagers living with them. We are also in the process of finding more orphanages in the area to donate these bags to.

For those experiencing homelessness, backpacks and tote bags play an important role in daily life. Bags can help keep all personal items together. Without a permanent place to call home, all personal items must be kept on hand at all times.

The Mahalaga bags are still in the process of being made. It will be a a two-toned design (18x18x6) with inside pocket and a zipper closure. Inside the tote bag when opened, the bag holder will see a phrase “Ikaw ay Mahalaga” which translates to “You are important.” It’s a reminder to these teenagers, despite their circumstances, that they still matter and very important to this world. It will give these orphans a tote bag to call their own and be able to put things that matter to them inside it. Having a bag can create a sense of security and normalcy to help them succeed.

**Update January 2022, distribution of the bags are currently on hold due to the present nationwide lockdowns in the Philippines caused by COVID-19**
